Handicaps

What is a Handicap?

A Golf Handicap is a numerical measure of a golfer's ability to play golf over the course of 18 holes. It is used to calculate a net score from the number of strokes actually played, thus allowing players of different proficiencies to play against each other on somewhat equal terms. The higher the handicap of a player, the poorer the player is relative to those with lower handicaps.

How Does Golf Rocket Calculate Handicaps?

Golf Rocket calculates all handicaps in-house and does not use the GHIN system. This saves golfers and courses money each year and ensures players cannot sandbag their scores. Rocket Handicaps are calculated based on actual past play.

  1. We take the most recent complete ~7 (courses can configure this number) 9-hole rounds you've played. These can be single 9-hole rounds or 18-hole rounds (using the front and back 9 from the scorecard)
  2. We toss the highest and lowest scorecard to account for outliers
  3. We average the remaining scores
  4. With the gross average score, we subtract the course rating of the course you're playing on and you're left with your course handicap!
